Above all else this is book is about memory – are we more than our memories, or are our memories all we are – but what also stuck out to me was Levy’s deft meditation on what it means to age, what it means to live as a foreigner abroad, what it means to love, what it means to be a part of a culture’s shifting landscape. It’s arguably easier to talk about this book’s themes than its actual plot, but I don’t want to suggest that my interpretation is the be all end all, because this is the sort of book that lends itself to discussions and contradictions. Instead I’ll just say that this book is like Penelope’s tapestry Levy weaves a brilliant tale in the first act, only to unweave it halfway through and then stitch it back together, and she does it carefully without sacrificing either the details or the big picture. I think it’s best to approach this book while knowing as little as possible about it, so I’m not really going to talk about the plot. Simply put, one of the most rewarding reading experiences I’ve ever had. THE MAN WHO SAW EVERYTHING by Deborah Levy

Payne does not propound the theory of " red fascism" or the notion that communism and Nazism are essentially the same. He asserts that there were some specific ways in which Nazism paralleled Russian communism to a much greater degree than Fascism was capable of doing. Known for his typological description of fascism, Payne is a specialist in the Spanish fascist movement and has also produced comparative analyses of Western European fascism. He retired from full-time teaching in 2004 and is currently Professor Emeritus at its Department of History. (although the extreme use of the color purple in lighting and clothing became very jarring at times) So, regardless as to how it compares to the source book, this film is very enjoyable and entertaining, both for male and female viewers. The quality of acting and photography are actually outstanding. With its copious nudity, it certainly meets today's "Netflix" standards of having women-centric stories, and enough female flesh to hold the men's interest. I can't recall if the book had such "modern" woman aspects, and the film is occasionally a bit tedious in its "blame the Patriarchy" for everything.but that's simply to be expected in film making today. As I watched the film unfold, I struggled for any "recognition" of scenes and situations, without success. Thus, I can't say if this film has anything in common with the book. First let me say that it's been 45-50 years since I read Lady Chatterley's Lover in college.and other than the title and a few names, I don't remember anything about it. They have transformed the way we see ourselves - and each other. Throughout history, some books have changed the world. Inspired by the myth of a man condemned to ceaselessly push a rock up a mountain and watch it roll back to the valley below, The Myth of Sisyphus transformed twentieth-century philosophy with its impassioned argument for the value of life in a world without religious meaning.
